A cosmetics lab doesn't need to smell clinical or be blindingly white like a hospital room to create top notch hair and skin formulations. We'll take pink lab coats, pink tiles, gorgeous fragrances, an array of colours and gentle formulations for our Fab Raw Beauty Lab.

Our science, regulations and all-around formulation whiz Belinda Shu is here to take you on a lab journey like no other. It's a life of experimentation, innovation and, most of all fun.

Not only is our Fab Lab a space for scientific research, it also raises our global technical credentials and enables quality control through contractor tests in house! This means we can ensure our high performing formulations are filled with all the cruelty free ingredients, fragrances, vitamins, or oils that we require.

We Have Control Over Our Quality

Core to our lab is the quality control we have for each and every brand we on board.

Belinda is all over our quality control standards in our Fab Lab:

"We constantly check that procedures are performed, such as Macroscopic Appearance, Odour, pH at 20/25 C and Viscosity at 20/25 C, to ensure that the product has appropriate ingredients, meets legislative requirements and is properly registered."

Our research lab mavericks are all about protecting the quality of our formulations and control check every ingredient inside our gorgeously designed tubes and bottles.. Ingredients are selected in line with our philosophy of care which focuses on efficacy and safety for both guests and our lab mavericks!

Creating Experiences For People Globally!

Our new product development team works closely in the trials, reviews, and processes; collaborating on preferred ingredients, fragrances, the texture and even the packaging. Each part of this process culminates in the experience of hotel guests and clients as they are transported on scent and texture journeys unique to each hotel collection. We have our Fab Lab to thank for that!

Belinda sums up her favourite part of her work in the Fab Lab:

"There are so many wonderful aspects of being a part of the production process, from initial formulation to end production it is just so much fun! My favourite part would have to be hearing how much people love a wash, lotion, shampoo or conditioner. I'm just simply so glad to be a part of delivering a feeling of pleasure and relief to so many folks when it comes to the matter of personal care and hygiene. It does feel good!"

A Sustainable Beauty Lab

VANITY GROUP is always working towards being more planet friendly. Crafting and creating our own wholesome plant-based products is a part of our planet friendly approach.

We recently have made the intentional choice to use post-consumer recycled materials in packaging which we feel is a great step in the right direction. However, this can prove to be difficult when working with different ingredients as the interaction between plastics and oils can have certain effects.

Belinda goes into more detail noting that: "the interaction between product and container is not that simple; certain oils may soften or degrade particular plastics, and other substances can interact badly with packaging and destabilise the formula. Hence, I can do thorough study on the stability of various packaging options in order to identify the best possible solution."

Without our lab, this sustainability testing would not be available for us so readily. Our processes are always clean, deliberate and certainly sustainably lead.

Why Having An In-House Beauty Lab Is Super Important

There is nothing better than being able to mix, blend and brew out of this world cocktails of beauty and skincare in our own space. However, there are a multitude of other benefits to having a lab in this industry.

What Is A Day In The Life Of A Master Chemist And Regulations Manager?

So, all of this fun is packed into one day? Of course, but we're sure there's more!

Here is a little insight into Belinda's day:

"A typical day will consist of checking the stability of development work (ensuring that everything is still smelling, feeling, and looking good) and making batches of new products, testing out new ingredients and formulas and optimising how they feel, smell, and look, as well as the way they're made to ensure a shelf-stable product. Next, check emails, I'll stay up to speed on everything that's going on and investigate new ingredients to verify that they're effective and acceptable for usage in our new products (this part is like a wonderful window-shopping binge!)."
