Five Minutes With Jo of Jo Loves

We sat down with the scent maverick herself to chat about the Jo Loves Hotel Collection and Jo’s most cherished travel memories.

Congratulations on signing the Jo Loves Hotel Collection! Why have you chosen to explore hotels?

'The hospitality industry has always fascinated me. This is an opportunity to bring two of my life loves together, fragrance and travel. It is a wonderful opportunity and one I am really looking forward too.'

Jo by Jo Loves, Pomelo, and Green Orange & Coriander have been hand selected to be reimagined as a hotel line. What’s the significance of these fragrances?

'Pomelo was the first fragrance of Jo Loves. This really is the beach fragrance for the world. Full of sunshine, blue skies, and happy moments. Green Orange & Coriander is perfect for city hops and overnight stays. It goes from cashmere to crisp white linen.

Jo by Jo Loves is my scent and my best friend that comes everywhere with me. It captures my spirit of travel and storytelling. It is a scent maverick and unexpected twists of citrus.'

Where is your favourite travel destination?  

'Dubai, I love Dubai for so many reasons from the culture to the food and experiences. I am at my most creative in this city. I totally adore spending time there. But also Paris is my creative home, surrounded by people I respect, learn from and create together with. My favourite moments are finding little coffee shops with my notebook and watching the world go by.’

What are your carry on essentials?  

'I travel a lot and I love my routine when I get onto a plane. I am always excited whether it’s a one hour or 18-hour flight, I know I am heading towards an adventure. My essentials are lip-gloss, fragrance to spray on myself (and also on my seat!). I also take eye pads, a moisturizer and a vial of oil for my face. Foot and hand cream, eye drops, a notebook and pen and my cashmere sleeping bag which I made many years ago. By the time I reach my destination I am ready for anything.'

How do you ensure you have a good night’s sleep while travelling?  

'I have always been very lucky, I am able to sleep anywhere and at any time. But as a family we have a fragrance that goes on our bedsheets every night. I take a bottle of that, put eye pads on and I am normally out for the count within 10 mins.'

How do you hope to make hotel guests feel when they see (and smell!) Jo Loves on their next overnight stay?

'I want to create scent memories for them all around the world. So when you smell Pomelo, you are back on the beach. When you smell Jo by Jo Loves you are sitting in Shanghai and when you smell the cologne scent of Green Orange & Coriander, you are wandering through the streets of Madrid. It is like a scent passport'.

If Jo Loves were a hotel, which one would it be and why?  

'It exists in my head, and I visit there often. With its white walls, luxurious fragranced tiles and scent in every corner. The chandeliers to the water fountains, to the cool crisp sheets as you walk into your suite. The breakfast tray that arrives smelling like sunshine. The food tapas bar, intended to inspire and recreate from my imagination. To small Pomelo hors d'oeuvres and cocktails to match. If I were to build this hotel it would have an unexpected scent that sings to you.'
